For awhile now I've been thinking about doing something new with my hair. In the past years, I stuck with one solid colour (usually a dark brown - two steps under black). Now I crave lighter hair, although I'm not sure how it will look on me. I don't want to ruin my hair so I have a plan to get gradually lighter.
First, I want to get subtle highlights known as 'balayage' highlights (not to be confused with ombre!) in a caramel brown colour. Balayage highlights are more blended and less stripey than other highlights and are done by hand rather than with foils.
Out of all these hair inspirations, I think I like Mila Kunis' hair the best because it looks very blended and natural. I'm excited to switch things up! Will you be trying any new hair styles this year?

I've always had dark hair too, most people would think it's black... but it's also probably two to three shades lighter... I want a change, maybe red? Not too obnoxious, but a subtle red.. oh decisions, decisions!

Breanne, it's funny that you should mention making a hair change. Lately, I've actually been considering doing something absolutely wild with my hair! After having grown it out for quite a few years, I think I'm ready for something a little more fun or crazy. I've been toying with the idea of cutting all my hair off but that might be a little extreme...even the addition of bangs would be a nice change I think! I'm still on the fence about any hair changes though. It's hard to tell what will and won't flatter me.
ReplyDeleteAs for your hair, balayage highlights sound lovely. I've seen them on some people and I think they look gorgeous. I'm sure you would look fantastic with them as well! Mila Kunis definitely has some stunning hair in that photo...it comes across as super natural as opposed to being too in your face. If you're looking to lighten your hair without destroying it, have you considered doing it the natural way? Rub some lemon juice on your hair and then go sit out in the sun for a little while. That should help lighten your hair to a natural looking lighter color in an inexpensive way!
I'm looking forward to seeing whatever hair change you might go for. Have an awesome week Breanne! <3

I had no clue about that lemon trick! Perhaps I will try it in the summer when there is actually sun and when it's tolerable to sit outside haha.
DeleteI think bangs would look great on you. What kind? Straight across or side swept?
I'm with you on that one! Mila's hair looks the most natural and classiest. I'm also thinking of doing some hair change, particularly cut it into waves. I'd love too see how it goes with you :)

I've got long hair and this is exactly what i want to try :) good choice :)
ReplyDeleteReally nice! I think it will look lovely on you
ReplyDeleteI agree, Mila's is best~

I've had balyage highlights in the past, it's sooo much better than ombre in my opinion which can end up looking a bit tacky. Whereas balyage just looks beautiful and sun kissed. xx

I have the same problem like you. Everybody thinks I have black hair,so on the one hand since I have a dark hair, they are healthier and nicer but it is hard to get back from dark to my natural.Your idea about it is amazing!I love it so much!:)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving Mila Kunis' one!! she's fab <3

I'm thinking about getting darker, but then again I think about how I like being blonde so yeah.. a bit stuck in the middle there.

I'm sure that whatever you decide, it will look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteP.S. What kind of camera do you use and with what lens? I've loved your style and photos ever since I saw you on Chictopia and I am looking for a DSLR now.
Thanks so much Lily!
DeleteI have a rebel t1i with a 50 mm lense/1.8 lense!
Balayage highlights are really interesting. I bet it would look good on you ;) Out of the photos you posted, I like the third one the best, it's a little bit more subtle, I guess that's why. Mila's are nice as well, but my second favorites are Jenna's. I guess I'm just weird xD
ReplyDeleteI'm curious what you will chose :)

i like mila kunis'
ReplyDeleteim not a big fan of the harsh ombre style. i think you would look better in the blended highlights look.
I'd love to lighten my hair. But I just don't have the time for upkeep.
ReplyDeleteI love Mila Kunis' hair! You should definitely give a go! I think it would look great :)

i'm currently doing the whole ombre thing, but caramel brown is starting to look very appealing to me
ReplyDeleteLove the idea! I can't wait for seeing the result! :)
ReplyDeleteI think that you would look absolutely beautiful, and I agree 100% that Mila's looks the most natural. :) I cannot wait to see the results.
ReplyDeleteAs for myself, I have been debating different hairstyles, different colours. I know that I want something different, but nothing too drastic. :P
I was just thinking that Milla's hair was the prettiest and I'm sure such a delicate ombré will suit you perfectly.
ReplyDeleteGo for it gorgeous!

Thank you for posting this! I've been looking to do something with my hair for a while now too. It's long and naturally wavy, and I dyed it dark brown about two years ago, tried going a little reddish, but was looking for some way of making it lighter now! This is so subtle and lovely. I'm gonna have to hit the hairdressers soon :) x
ReplyDeleteLove it! My color is very close now to Mila Kunis' but it took about six months to carefully get it exactly to that point. I didn't want it to look too ombre and so it took a few times to let each layer grow out and paint the caramel brown on different pieces. Anyway, my point is that it took time, but I LOVE IT and get compliments all the time!
