Hey guys! I’m back with a new makeup haul courtesy of Korean beauty brand, April Skin! April Skin is a natural beauty brand that focuses on hypo-allergic, rejuvenating products with carefully selected ingredients. In other words, their products are known to work quite well on sensitive skin of all types. Having dry skin myself, I was excited to try out out some products.
You may have heard of the Magic Stone, a wildly popular cleansing soap that all the Korean beauty bloggers are talking about.
I received both the original pore cleansing Magic Stone and the detoxing Magic Stone black. Of course skin products take weeks and often months to really get a vibe for, but I’ll let you know my first impressions.
To use the magic stones, you lather them under water between your hands and then apply the lathers to your face and leave for 30 seconds. Then, you rinse off with warm water. The Magic Stones are often said to be amazing for dry skin and to give your skin a bright glow, but unfortunately after a few days of use I didn’t see any of these results. It has a great smell, but when rinsing it off, it feels kinda sticky and “stuck”, like the feeling you get when you use certain bar soaps on your hands. My skin didn’t feel as tight or dry as it has felt with other cleansers, but it didn’t feel overly moisturized either. Maybe my skin is too dry for great results. The other thing was that the stone doesn’t really remove eye makeup very well (and it’s not gentle on the eyes), so I’d really only recommend using it as an additional cleansing “mask”. I’m going to keep using it for a few months to see how it works with preventing acne. I’ve heard of many people getting rid of/preventing acne by just using a gentle, natural soap so I think these stones could be a winner in that regard. For now, I think they are just OK.
The next product I tried was the April Skin Snow Cushion in White. Now before we continue, one thing to note is that in Korea, the word “whitening” means something different than here. When I was browsing the site I was like WTF because all the products claimed to be “whitening” (which I interpreted as skin bleaching) and I was shocked. However with further research I realized that in the Korean beauty industry, “whitening” refers to highlighting/brightening of the skin.
When you open the Snow Cushion, you will have a little pad and another compartment that opens to the product. You press the pad into the spongy bit and it distributes product for you to use. This product is specifically for dry skin, so I was eager to try it out. The results? AWESOME! I really was impressed. Using this cut my makeup time down significantly and I was amazed at how little product it took to get great coverage. I only applied one thin layer and the coverage was incredible. What’s more, it’s a lovely dewy finish.
The only problem I found so far is that the product is very light and velvety and can come off easily. For example, I was taking a photo with my dSLR directly after applying and when I pulled away from the camera there was a foundation nose-print on my screen, ha! I remedied this by dusting my face with Make Up Forever HD powder and a few sprays of Mac Fix+ spray, which seemed to do the trick quite nicely. I would DEFINITELY recommend this product to others, especially those who may not have a lot of time for makeup in the morning but still want a super finished, polished look.
Now, the only thing left to do was finish up my makeup. I also received the complete set of Magic Zoom Eyeliner. They are soft, waterproof and smudge proof. I’ve been trying them out for the past week and am very happy with them.
The complete set includes two metallic pencils, as well as a nude that is great for the lower lid of your eye if you want something less stark than white.
Today, I decided to use 02 – the darkest brown shade. I also created a faint cut crease with Glow from my Anastasia of Beverly Hills palette. On my eyelashes is Marcelle’s Volum’XTENSION Magentic mascara. For my eyebrows I use Anastasia of Beverly Hills dip brow. Off to start the day!
