Soft and casual. I like putting slouchy sweaters over really fancy/girly dresses - it's a great way to dress down your more dressy items and make them more suitable for everyday outfits.

Pride Day 2012

It's that time again- Winnipeg's Gay Pride day! It's something that my friends and I go to nearly every year, and I personally think it's pretty fun.

This year the parade went in a loop, starting and ending at the Legislative building. Bright, rainbow colours were everywhere regardless of it being a little gloomy outside.

After the parade, we went to the forks and had a delicious supper at the Old Spaghetti Factory. Great day.
The best part (see below) was seeing a cat on a leash. This is the future, guys. It ain't a dog world.

Is mint a calming colour? It can be pretty bright and obnoxious, but I like it when paired with neutrals. Wearing mint with brown/black made me feel less like a dessert. I feel like this year, my spring/summer attire will blend more naturally into my fall clothing, since I'm really loving browns and colours I usually associate with autumn.

Here are some of my new things. I don't like buying typically tourist items when I travel, so I usually just spend my money on items on whatever I like - souvenir or not. While I was in Australia I began to buy items for my room makeover (*coming soon*), as well as a bunch of new accessories.

& Here are some purchases from my trip to the mall. Some jean shorts with a faded pattern and a feather skirt - both from garage.

ANDDD. Here is a very special graduation gift from my parents. It is something I will keep forever. And of course it's a cat - which practically defines me. Thanks mom and dad :)

Well, it's all done. I'm graduated.

Even with all the agony and suffering, the three years went by rather fast and left me with something valuable.

Some people make fun of a BA (Bachelor of Arts), but I enjoyed the topics I studied (History and Religion). I became a better writer. I even became more outgoing. I learned new things about the world.

Now life will change, and of course that's a bit scary. I'm slowly starting my full time job search. I think I've mentioned this before, but I have decided to follow my bliss. I want to work in fashion. I've been trying to decide whether some kind of fashion schooling would be worth it (something like merchandizing), but I'm not so sure. I would like to get a job where I can learn practical things immediately. I'd rather not work in a large retail store like forever 21 where I would likely just be a pawn (Rather than say, working in a small independently owned boutique where I could actually learn how to run a store), but I am willing to, if it means getting experience in the fashion industry.

I'm home! The past few days I've been trying to catch up on life/with friends, and I can't wait to post more regularly on my blog again.

It may seem crazy, but as soon as I got home from Australia I had the biggest urge to go shopping. Like I said before, Australia doesn't have anything like Forever 21 and most of the stores are fairly expensive (in my opinion, at least), so that's probably why I felt the need to go IMMEDIATELY. I'll post stuff I got from Australia/that shopping day probably.

& Now for what I wore.

Byron Bay

I absolutely LOVED Byron Bay!

If you ever travel to Australia, I highly recommend it for the vibe of the area alone. Here are some trip highlights.

First...our awesome hotel. Apartments Inn! My favourite hotel everrr.

Byron Bay has a lighthouse with sweeet views.

We also went kayaking with dolphins and took a trip to Dreamworld and White Water world. I pet a baby tiger! <3

It's now nearly time to say goodbye to Australia. I can't believe I got this experience and I will never forget it! I enjoyed every minute.

Ultra Australia Post (lots of photos)

So, you may have been wondering what I've been doing with the rest of my time in Australia. A LOT. Here are the highlights (and more pictures coming soon from Captain Matty's Tour).

I finally saw the circular quay!

We went to eat at this nice restaurant called Crinitis. I find restaurants here to be a lot different than back home. For instance, it was a bit off-putting to spend that much money on food, and not even be offered refills ( which I know isn't customary in restaurants here ) or any type of pre-meal extra, like warm bread. Anyways, the food we did have was good. The steak tastes much different here.

Oh yes, and in the little shopping area I discovered my new store obsession.... TYPO! It's basically little cute nicknacks and stationary type items, for cheap too! I got a pillow with a deer print among other things. I'll probably post those later.

On another day we went to this place called Voodoo which is pretty much a large series of cliffs. It was a pretty spooky setting in the evening.

The next day we did a Sydney "city sights" tour, which went up to some places even Rai hadn't been. The tour also went to Manly beach - which looked like a really nice little area.

It was part of a groupon deal involving the Taronga Zoo. Which brings me to the next photos...

The zoo was really fun. You take a ferry then a sky rail up to the top, and make your way down. There are tons of animals to see, but our favourite was this last seal. He loved to watch the crowds and get attention.

One night we went out to Kings Cross. Some club called Soho. There are a LOT of guys in clubs here! Back home, there are mainly girls.

The next week we went to Cairns. It was a short flight and almost felt like we were back in Fiji with the landscape. Right away I liked Cairns. It's Australia but has a small town feel, unlike Sydney. You can walk to all the main places, and there is a really nice harbour strip called the Esplanade. Theres a huge public pool which we spent some time sunbathing and swimming at.

Of course we had to do a Great Barrier Reef tour. We went with Sunlover cruises. It was a bit big/crowded for my taste but it was a really nice day. The boat ride out to the reef was VERY wavy, so many people were getting seasick. Rai and I didn't, but it felt like you were on a rollercoaster haha. The reef was very cool to snorkel in, and we also got to go into a glass bottom boat and a semi-submarine.

In Cairns we found some yummy eats, like this pizza place called Bel Paese. The 4 cheese pizza was amazing!

But our favourite, FAVOURITE place ever was Grill'd! There is one in Sydney but Rai didn't know about it until Cairns. It's gourmet burgers, and wow are they good. The chips are also amazing. I didn't get any pictures, because they hate 'foodies' and bloggers. I was scared :(

We stayed in Coral Tree Inn. It was very nice, clean and comfortable. The pool was a really nice area. We did a little photoshoot!

You always need a good selection of sunglasses.

The next thing we did in Cairns was Captain Matty's Barefoot Tour. It was the highlight of the Cairns trip. We went into the rainforest to a series of waterfalls and saw other cool things like big crater holes.

This was a super eerie crater lake. It was a bit foggy, making it even spookier.

That was a super huge post, wasn't it! Now we are headed to Byron Bay for my last week.

BULA.

Last night Rai and I arrived home from our week in Fiji. It was AMAZING! We didn't bring our SLRS (and that was probably a great idea, they would have been such a pain!) so we only had crappy digitals/iphone photos - sorry about that, but you get the idea! I wanted to review my trip honestly in case any of you guys ever head over to Fiji or try out the same tour.

We went on a tour called Feejee experience - and it was an experience indeed. Here was the tour route.

Starting from the beginning... We arrived in Nadi in the early evening. I really loved the landscape of Fiji, here's a view from the plane;

We had a list of 'hotels' we could choose from and we went with the one with the best reviews...hmm...not a good idea, since it really only had 3 reviews.

...So this was the "Beach Escape Villa" in Nadi. The room was musky and the bedsheets were stained with yellow. The pillows smelled really bad! Honestly, it was a bit scary haha. There were a lot of skinny/diseased looking dogs roaming around the resort, I felt really bad for them. We named one Fido. Also the owner of the hostel/hotel wasn't too nice to us and insisted we had to pay for the room when we had pre-paid with our resort. Not the best experience for the first night.

We visited the beach straight away, the water was surprisingly warm but we didn't have the chance to go swimming as we needed to go have supper.

The next morning we started our bus tour! We quickly learned about "fiji time" - aka everything is late and relaxed haha. We got used to it and didn't mind everything being a bit slower. Right away we loved our tour guide (Emi) and bus driver (Bosh). They were so hilarious, Emi was always upbeat and singing us songs haha. The bus was a bit rickity/slightly disappointing as the website promises a 'modern fleet' type of tour bus.

We stopped in Nadi town quickly and no one really enjoyed that. The shop workers really try to coerce and trick you into coming into their store. Two boys in our group were brought into the basement of a shop and given Kava, then were forced to buy stuff...very bizarre. Oh yeah, Kava is a traditional fijian drink used to welcome visitors and whatnot. While the Canadian travel website says not to drink it (its a mixture of kava plant and water, so the water might not always be filtered), we had to drink it frequently out of respect. It does not taste good and makes your mouth numb. But I was rather certain they make sure to filter the water and none of us ever got sick from it.

The next place we went to was one of the top 20 beaches in the world. I can see why, since its perfect for people who surf or love waves (Rai), but I didn't feel safe going in because the undertow was extremely strong. I mostly just waded in the shallow end of the shore watched the guys get annihilated by the waves. Afterwards we had a BBQ on the beach made by Bosh and Emi themselves. I thought it was super good and especially loved the fresh BBQed fish! Mmmm.

Emi and Bosh told us to go check out a 5 star resort down the beach and go swimming in the pool haha, so me and Rai did. We looked up the hotel afterwards and its something like 700 fiji dollars per night to stay in ! Unreal! The pool was extremely refreshing.

The next stop was the sand dunes. Basically its a super super steep hill of sand. I was too scared to go down it ;_; lol. Rai went though! He said it was fun.

We then headed for Mango Bay Resort. I really enjoyed it. There were little tiki huts along winding paths that we stayed in. There was a very huge spider in our shower. Or it might have been a crab. This resort had towels AND shampoo! bonus!

The next day we went to the jungle to do a trek! It wasn't too physically demanding, there were some steep bits but I really enjoyed it. We went to a waterfall which was gloriously refreshing, not to mention beautiful.

The next resort we went to was Uprising Resort. It was INCREDIBLE!! Definitely my favourite. We got a waterfront Bure and the room was clean and comfortable. There was an outdoor shower which was really nice, believe it or not. Oh yeah, and by this time I realized that Fiji really doesn't have many bugs at all. The spider/crab thing was the only thing we saw. Other than that, there are only geckos and a few mosquitos. And frogs.

The resort had beanbag chairs all around. If I had more time, I could definitely imagine myself sunbathing and reading on them.

The only thing I didn't like about this resort was the snorkeling. We paid to go out on a snorkeling tour, and once we were out on the ocean I noticed that it was pretty choppy. I asked if I could go in with a a lifejacket (I'm not a weak swimming, I just saw the waves and knew it was too much) and they said the life jacket would make it harder. So we all went in without. The water was completely murky because of the waves, and I spent the first 3 minutes treading water trying to get my mask on properly, watching the boat drift away. I panicked a bit. All of us ended up back on the boat within minutes, only a few guys stayed in the water. It was pretty disappointing. They also saw a bull shark in the water...

The next day was our longest day travel-wise. We went to a village to try some traditional fijian food. We all had to wear sulus/sarongs. First there was a few Kava ceremonies and then it was time to eat. The village sang songs while we tried the food. I didn't mind any of it, I liked these leaf rolls they made. Afterwards we had a few MORE Kava ceremonies and then some entertainment- dancing! It was hilarious and all the fiji people were extremely fun and welcoming. They even welcomed any of us to stay in their spare hut for a week to get a better taste of what Fiji life is really about.

We also went for a traditional bamboo raft ride (their old main mode of transport) - that was really cool! Whenever you drive past anyone in Fiji, everyone waves. Such friendly people.

We then set off for the Volivoli resort, which was quite unique! It was set slightly up on a hill, so you had to walk uphill to get to your rooms and downhill to the restaurant/pool area.

We got to spend a bit more time at this resort and I took advantage of just lazing around the pool.

Oh yeah, I brought the backwards cap back in style wooo. This one is Acid Reign.

Next was the last day on the bus! Boohoo! The highlight of the last day was the trip to the mudpools. Playing in mud is fun. Of course a mud battle broke out.

We took a dip in the natural hot springs ( and when they say hot, they mean HOT! ) to wash off.

We soon had to bid farewell to Emi and Bosh. The next day we were heading to Beachcomber island with an affiliated cruiseboat.

The island was picturesque. This was the water I had been waiting for - clear, crystal! Like bath water! Immediately all I wanted to do was go snorkeling. You could get snorkel gear for free and we went right off the shoreline. We saw so many different fish, coral and starfish. I also saw a huge jelly fish...freaky. The water was so comfortable and warm to swim it, it was almost unbelievable! I could have swim in it all day. I liked just sitting in the shallow parts watching the tide draw in and out.

These milkshakes made Rai/possibly me really sick. If you go to Fiji, I would stay away from food with milk. Even at a restaurant one of the girls in our group got a coffee drink with lumpy, sour milk in it... Apart from that, there's plenty of food to choose from and I enjoyed nearly all of my meals. The Fiji portions are HUGE (much like Canadian/American) and you really get a bang for your buck!

That night, we sat watching a game of beach volleyball and playing our new obsession...Temple Run! I have to say, I'm way better at Rai at it. Look at my high score!

The trip overall was a really great experience - I thought it was paradise. The weather was always hot, and sunny. It might rain for a few minutes but then it would end. I loved the water the most. It was really nice to have a group to chat with, and many of them were independent travellers on very long, worldwide trips. We got lots of advice. Oh yeah, and we also met a few cats along the way. On one night, a cat wandered in through our hotel balcony!

However, I got sick at the end of the trip. On the last day, I started feeling really ill. We made a good choice and chose to stay in a more expensive (and not even all that expensive, like 80 bucks canadian per night) hotel for the last night. It was a really good choice because around midnight I woke up with a burning fever. It was a very bizarre feeling fever that I had never experienced before. Since we stayed in the more expensive hotel, they actually had a doctor on call 24/7. We called him and he came to our hotel room. He said it could be just a normal flu, or there is a chance I contracted some bacterial infection that had been going around due to the recent floods in fiji. Apparently you can get it from either drinking something thats infected or from walking through waters with cuts on your feet/legs. I didn't really have any cuts so I'm thinking maybe it was something I ate (MILKSHAKE, DAMN YOU) I was prescribed some anti-biotics. I felt really terrible for the past couple of days but this morning I woke up feeling much,much better. We're back in Sydney now and taking a resting day, hopefully tomorrow we can go to Sydney's harbour. We have a restaurant there we want to try!

Woops, I should be sleeping since I'm leaving at 6am tomorrow for Fiji, but I wanted to get a post in with other photos from Sydney.

Yesterday we went to Bondi/Bondi Pavillion but I didn't have my camera sadly (we will be going back). I really was overwhelmed with all the shops, but most of them were out of my price range. They were still fun to look through, and had tons of unique stuff.

The mall was OUT OF HAND. I've been to the Mall of America and West Edmonton Mall and this mall seemed wayyy bigger, probably because it had so many floors! There were so many women's clothing shops. I think I like Sportsgirl, Cotton On and Dotti the best. However, I still think a Forever 21 would do amazing here...most prices are quite high still and as you all know, forever 21 probably has the best prices around.

Also, to Rai's dismay I bought a pair of pants (seen in the photos below) from "Supre" which according to him, is not the best clothing store for girls haha, whateverrrr. I needed some pants because I didn't pack enough.

Then today we headed over this lovely park by his house. I really enjoyed walking around and exploring it - and the ducks were so cute!

Tried these Lindt macaroons for the first time. They were good but I expected them to be better for some reason. They just reminded me of those cake oreo things.

Sydney: Day 1 and 2

G'day everyone ;)

That's right, I'm in Australia, and that's how I have to talk now.

The way there was quite eventful, my flight from LA to Sydney was cancelled and I had to stay in LA for 24 hours...I didn't leave my hotel though, I kept thinking if I ventured out that I would get lost and miss my rescheduled flight haha.

Everything went smooth again once I was on the last flight - 15 hours! It really didn't feel that long. I watched 4 movies and slept mostly. The meals were quite good, surprisingly.

When I got to Sydney it was 7am, so I forced myself to stay awake until a normal bedtime so that I wouldn't get jetlag, and it worked great. Here are some photos from the first two days. We mostly wandered around one side of the harbour (not the side with the opera house) and went to the Sydney Aquarium.

I'm already noticing so many different things here compared to Canada. Maybe I will compile them into a post.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Ahhh! It's nearly here. On tuesday, I will be leaving for Australia! This may very well be my last update in Canada. If I can, I want to get Wifi on the plane. Maybe I can update once from there ;)

I'm sure Rai and I will take lots of outfit shots in Australia, but who knows if I will have time to upload them regularly!

Anyways, I wore this outfit the other day and my mom said I should title it "Leaving on a Jet Plane" - seems fitting, except on the plane I will be wearing wayyyy comfier clothing!

Call it rose, dusty pink, light mauve or blush - I LOVE THIS COLOUR! It doesn't necessarily have to be ultra girly either - just pair it with neutrals and less 'tailored' clothing. For example - i picture the last pair of boots with tight camel coloured skinnies and an oversized blouse - maybe even a brown leather jacket!

For my outfit, I made this lovely dusty pink dress from Miss Patina a bit more edgy with leather feather earrings from Beatniq.

I LOVE YOUR STYLE: Style Surgery

Today I'd like to introduce you to a blogger named Megann who runs Style Surgery! Megann is from Manila, and her style journey has had much to do with a major surgery she underwent - read more about that here.

Her blog has a clean layout with lots of pretty photos, which is everything I look for in a blog. Oh yeah, and I really enjoy her style!

I would describe Megann's style as a mixture of girly, vintage and eclectic. She wears a lot of pastels, floral prints and skirts, but also adds chunky bracelets and layers.

Her outfits make me excited about Spring and Summer, since I tend to wear light colours during those months (like everyone else!). Also, I bet her accessory/jewelry collection is amazing!

She's always sure to photograph the details of her outfits. Love the colours in this one! Who would have thought orange and mint would be fresh together?

This outfit sort of sums up the look I'm going to be going for this spring/summer.

Heading to school for an exam today, and then tonight my friends & I are going to watch some movies. We like disturbing/scary/unique movies. Know of any? Comment!

On another note, this was my repeated outfit for a few days last week. Oh yeah, and I've been tanning, can you tell yet? I feel like my face will be forever pale, but I'm going to Sephora soon to see if I've gone up even a few shades.

These shoes are Le Bunny Bleu and are VERY comfortable because they have a spongy type of bottom. The design is also adorable - look at all the cute details. I love the different patchwork of fabrics on the inside.

I wrote this plaid cape/jacket so much this past winter! I was really into brown footwear this winter, so it went perfect with my boots.

I couldn't leave the velvet skirt out of this post! It was really great for winter because of it's colour and texture - but also because it was so easy to dress up or down.
